Disclosing this to SAHARACABLE in an interview in Calabar on Friday, the Commander of SARS, Mr Victor James Usang said that the command would not rest until all the criminals were arrested. He said the command last week made some major breakthrough.
“There was armed robbery incident at Ogoja where one Igbo filling station along Government Reserved Area Road was attacked and N700, 000 carted away by two men, below 25 years- Ogar David and Edward Ugbe.
“The two men have been arrested and we have recovered a locally made pistol and one cartridge as well as N92, 000,” he stated.
He further said that in Awi, in Akamkpa local government area of the State, there was another robbery incident, where one Njomano Egom Ndifun was robbed of N900, 000 by Okon Asukwo Ekpenyong and his gang of five.
“Okon Asukwo Ekpenyong has been arrested and a sum of N98, 000 recovered from him and when we conducted a search in his house, we recovered a locally made pistol and two microscopes allegedly belonging to a secondary school in the area,” he added.
He said in Awi again, two ladies were robbed of their phones and a sum of N20, 000 by one Otoh Agbor Ofem also residing in Awi.
“Ofem has a gang and he is the head of the gang.
“He is from Yakurr local government area of the state. He has been arrested and we are strategizing with a view to arresting other gang members.
“In Calabar South, on Wednesday, at about 2pm, 4 young men suspected to be members of Vickings confraternity had an argument and in the process, one of them slapped the other out of provocation.
“The one that was slapped became angry and pulled out a locally made pistol that was with him and fired the one that slapped him on his right ribs and he died on the spot,” he said.
“Calabar is still relatively peaceful as compared to other states, even though we have one or two skirmishes here and there. We have intensified our patrol and have increased our surveillance. We will conduct thorough search in all criminal hideouts in the state, including Akpabuyo, Akamkpa Bakassi and others,” he added.
He advisde residents to offer information that would lead to arrest of criminals, as well as contact the commissioner of Police, who he said was willing to listen to everybody.
