Just In ; Electoral Institute DG, Prof. Momoh Is Dead- Saharacable

The Director General (DG) of The Electoral Institute, Prof. Abubakar Momoh, is dead.

He was said to have died of a protracted illness.

The news of his demise was made known through a WhatsApp group, which has the spokesman of the Pro-National Democratic Coalition, Wale Okunniyi, as its Administrator.

The Nation confirmed that Momoh is also a member of the WhatsApp group known as Nigeria Democracy Platform. Momoh died in Abuja and is expected to be buried in Auchi, Edo State later on Monday, according to Islamic rites.

An activist, Momoh was appointed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the DG of TEI on July 22, 2013, but effective August 1, 2013.
Momoh, a Professor of Political Science, was until his appointment the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Lagos State University.
He obtained a Ph.D in Political Theory.

He started lecturing in 1988 and has served on various Boards and Scientific Committees, including those of the Centre for Democracy and Development and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa.

Momoh has also been on several technical teams of the African Union Commission, AUC, and most recently was involved in designing the African Governance Architecture, AGA, and Elections Bench-marking for the African Union.

He has also served as election Observer to several African countries on behalf of ECOWAS and African Union. He has also served as Election Observer to some European countries.

He was also the Vice President of African Association of Political Science and a researcher and lecturer at many universities across the world.
